Alan Shaffran has served as a Senior Portfolio Manager in the Alternative Credit and Fixed Income (“ACFI”) group since 2008 and heads Magnetar’s London office. He oversees the European portion of Magnetar’s ACFI portfolio, including longstanding investment strategies in synthetic risk transfer (SRT) transactions, growth capital and specialty finance. Alan is also part of Magnetar’s firm-wide Management Committee.
Prior to joining Magnetar in 2008, Alan was the global head of structuring at Rabobank in London, where he was responsible for the bank’s structured products businesses across asset classes ranging from credit and interest rates to equity and fund derivatives.
Before his time at Rabobank, Alan spent more than 19 years at Salomon Brothers/Citigroup. From 2001 to 2006, he was a Managing Director and head of European credit derivatives in London. Prior to that, he was a founding member of the credit derivatives and emerging markets credit derivatives trading desks in New York and a vice president in debt capital markets.
Alan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Science and Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Science as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, with a concentration in Finance.
