Ernie Rogers is the Chief Operating Officer (“COO”) at Magnetar, where he oversees all aspects of the firm’s operations and finances, including managing a diverse array of both back-office and select front-office teams that constitute over half of Magnetar’s workforce. His leadership is pivotal in fostering innovation and operational efficiency across Magnetar businesses, as well as in the execution of strategic initiatives aimed at future-proofing the firm. As a senior executive, Ernie is involved in several key committees at Magnetar, including the Executive, Management, Valuation and Operations Committees.
Additionally, Ernie leads Magnetar’s exploration of investment opportunities in both Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence. He is actively growing these sectors of Magnetar’s business through building and maintaining strong partnerships with key industry players.
Ernie began his tenure at Magnetar in 2005 on the Alternative Credit and Fixed Income team, previously serving as that business’ COO. He was one of the earliest members of Magnetar, joining shortly after its inception. Since then, Ernie’s efforts have been crucial in scaling each of the firm’s businesses. He has played a significant role in sourcing new investments, onboarding and expanding business platforms and helping to identify and develop top-tier talent, all of which have collectively contributed to enhancing Magnetar’s culture, portfolio and investor offerings.
Previously, Ernie was a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager for the Quantitative Strategies Fund at Black River Asset Management. In that role, he focused on all fund operations including execution, strategic planning, and strategy development and deployment. Prior to joining Black River, Ernie held a variety of positions at hedge funds and corporations focused on investing and portfolio management. His experience spans fixed income, equity and energy markets.
Ernie earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting and financial management from the Kansas State University College of Business Administration.
